The scientific programme for ECTAS 2012
comprises various activities that could be
appealing to a wide spectrum of audience. The
programme is carried on in three different
halls, starting on Thursday 9 February 2012 at
9:00, and ends on Saturday 11 February 2012 at
17:00.
Programme Highlights:
Conference sessions will cover the most
relevant topics to the practice of
cardiothoracic and vascular anesthesia. These
topics will include recent updates in adult and
pediatric cardiac surgery and anesthesia,
thoracic anesthesia, vascular anesthesia,
perfusion technology, ICU, TEE, as well as
research methodology.
Specialized CME and accreditation
courses:
Post-Cardiac Surgery ICU Course
on Thursday 9 February 2012. The ICU course is a
full-day event and is free
for all to attend. The course is organized by
Dr. Saadeya Moussa.
Basic TEE Course on Friday 10
February 2012. This course is intended for all
clinicians interested in the practice of
intraoperative TEE. The course will cover the
most important topics in TEE required for safe
practice as well as accreditation exams. The
Basic TEE course is a joint collaboration
between ECTAS and EACTA.
The Basic TEE course is a paid event but
does not necessitate
pre-registration in the Conference. Registration
fees are 500 LE.
Ultrasound in Critical Care Course
on Saturday 11 February 2012. This course is
intended for clinicians involved in the
management of patient in critical care and
emergency rooms. As ultrasound is gaining wide
popularity as a safe and rapid diagnostic tool
in difficult situations, this course is expected
to attract the attention of a wide variety of
audience. This course is
free for all to attend. The US in
Critical Care Course is Organized by Dr. Patrick
Wouters and Dr. Maged Salah.
Workshops:
TEE Simulation Workshop:
Utilizing state of the art technology,
the workshop employs the concept of simulation
training to mimic real-life TEE examinations.

The TEE Simulation Workshop is a
paid event and
necessitates
pre-registration in the Conference. A limited
number of places is available. Registration fees
are 500 LE.
Bronchial Anatomy and Lung Isolation
Workshop:
This workshop emphasizes the importance
of knowing bronchial anatomy in order to achieve
successful lung isolation in thoracic
anesthesia. The workshop also demonstrates some
of the newer techniques in lung isolation by
experts in the field. For more details on the

Isolation Workshop is a
paid event and
necessitates pre-registration in the
Conference. A limited number of places is
available. Registration fees are 200 LE.
The Annual TEE Exam:
The Annual TEE Exam is intended for those
seeking accreditation in intraoperative TEE.
Although not officially required, accreditation
is a proof of proficiency and skill in TEE and
is a means to minimize patient harm caused by
inaccurate diagnoses. The TEE Exam is organized
and directly supervised by members of the TEE
Committee of the EACTA. For more details on the
